Poms Program

High School Poms in Arvada is a competitive sport. We recommend dancers start training in middle school — our weekly classes build technique, with mock tryouts and camps to solidify training along the way.

High School Poms in Arvada is a competitive sport. We recommend dancers start training in middle school. We have weekly classes that help build technique, and then offer mock tryouts and camps to solidify their training. Ms. Ashley, our Poms coordinator, also provides private lessons upon availability.

Beginner / Intermediate
Who: dancers with 1–2 years of experience, or new to pom style
ArmsBasic pom arms — T, L, touchdown, dagger, box, candlesticks, K, R, W, Cheerio, check, V (high/low) — and correct wrist placement
KicksKicks R / L / C
Leaps / JumpsR / L / C leaps, toe touch
TurnsChaîné, pirouettes (goal: a clean double)
SidelinesLearn and retain a new sideline weekly — 6–8 by semester's end, recognizable by name alone
Advanced
Who: dancers with 2+ years of experience and beginner/intermediate skills mastered
KicksKicks R / L / C, extensions, leg turns
Leaps / JumpsR / L / C leaps, toe touch, ring jump, turning center, calypso
TurnsPirouettes (working toward triples/quads), turns in second (5 into double, or combos)
SidelinesNew sidelines and small combos with correct arms
